Who is BWB?
We're a specialized team of coaches who believe that everyone has an inner champion, no matter their ability—which is why we've designed a unique non-contact boxing program specifically for children, youth, adults (ages 7+) with physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities.
We teach athletes with a wide range of abilities, and design our programs for different people, with different needs and goals. More than that, we're passionate about teaching boxing and encourage our athletes to have a healthy dose of fun while learning it.
What should I expect?
Non-contact
This is a strictly non-contact class. Injury risk is at the same level as any other non-contact sports program. Our coaches take all possible measures to minimize injury risk and hazards to ensure a safe training environment.
Improved fitness and health
Boxing is a sport that develops your cardio, strength, endurance, balance, and coordination. It also encourages social interaction, teaches perseverance, and highlights the importance of setting goals.
New skill development
Research shows that exercise engaging in physical activity is beneficial for children and develops self-confidence, resilience, and cognitive skills, helping with learning, motivation, and fundamental movement.
No equipment required
All equipment is provided. Participants only require athletic clothing, shoes, and a water bottle.
Specialized programming
Any athlete with a disability is invited to participate. You are not required to disclose or identify the participant's diagnosis to participate (but you are welcome to if you'd like!)
Skilled and helpful coaching
Our coaches are trained to work with people possessing a wide range of skill levels. We maintain a maximum ratio of 1 coach for every 5 athletes in all of our classes.
What happens during a class?
Warm Up!
All of our classes begin with a fun group warm-up led by one of our skilled coaches.
Glove up!
Athletes use a variety of equipment in the gym (including heavy bags, hand pads, sliplines) while being supervised and receiving feedback from our coaches.
Team up!
Athletes work individually, in pairs, or as part of a group at various times throughout the class. All activities are adaptable with built-in modifications so that everyone can participate based on their ability and comfort level.
